Monster Mash Day

The Monster Mash is a novelty song recorded and released by Bobby "Boris" Picket and "The Crypt-Kickers" in August 1962. The song is about a mad scientist whose monster, late one evening, rises from a slab to perform a new dance which becomes "the hit of the land" when the scientist throws a party for other monsters. The song was written during the time when a dance called "the Mashed Potato" was all the rage. The Monster Mash was a variation of "the Mashed Potato" dance where the footwork was the same but monster gestures were made with the arms and hands.

The song reached the Billboard Hot 100 chart on October 20, 1962, just in time for Halloween.
