There are two Waffle Days celebrated each year: International Waffle Day on March 25th and National Waffle Day on August 24th.
International Waffle Day originated in Sweden. It coincides with the Feast of the Annunciation, which is a celebration of the day that the Archangel Gabriel announced to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and bare the Son of God, Jesus Christ. It also coincides with the first day of spring in Sweden. As part of a combined celebration for these two events the women make waffles!
